An orphan minor girl has allegedly been impregnated by a distant relative in the Dasmantpur area of the district. Based on a complaint of a guardian of the victim, police have detained the accused.
Reports said the accused, a married person, had established a physical relationship with the 16-year-old girl, who stays at her aunt’s house after promising to marry her.
After the girl’s pregnancy came to light, a meeting was held at the panchayat for a solution over the issue, but it yielded no results.
Later, the aunt of the girl lodged a complaint with the Dasmantpur police, on the basis of which the accused was detained by cops for questioning.
Notably, several incidents of minor girls being impregnated in Odisha have come to the fore recently, raising serious questions over the safety and security of girls in the State.
