In an ambitious plan, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has decided to triple its kitty from tax collection in the current financial year. Dehradun mayor, Sunil Uniyal Gama, has set up a target of Rs 75 Crore for the MCD. He is confident that MCD is equipped with a plan which will surely result in the completion of the target on time.
The Mayor said, “Last year the target was Rs 25 crore this year we have decided to raise it to Rs 75 crore. Last year, 40 to 50 percent taxpayers in the 60 wards paid taxes. However, this year, we have planned to collect tax from all eligible tax payers. It will ensure a 100 percent jump in tax collection. Instructions, regarding these, have been given to our team for properly collecting both the house and commercial taxes. Also, the commercial owners have self-assessed their property which we believe can be faulty. Our teams will also check these commercial properties and also ensure that those who have not registered or paid any commercial tax at all are brought in the tax ambit. For this, the team has been given one month time to finally submit a report on this.”
Adding more about the strategy for the collection of this he said, “The strategy is simple we have added all the private schools or semi-Government schools under the category of payers this time. Only those schools will not be charged that are not in very good condition.”
MCD follow a process of issuing three notices to any of the payer who fails to submit the house tax or property tax on time. Elaborating further, he said, “If anyone fails to deposit the property tax or house tax on time, then the necessary punitive action will be taken accordingly as per the rule. If even after that the payer will fail to pay the tax then the No Objection Certificate (NOC) of the commercial property or the house can be seized.”
It is important to mention that the total tax collected so far by the MCD in this financial year is only Rs 2 crore.
