Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ inspected the Paltan Bazaar area along with officials and public representatives on Monday. He said that though the business fraternity had assured full cooperation to free the city of encroachment, the situation in Paltan Bazaar was bad. He said that this is the last warning to traders and that if they do not mend their ways, the MCD will act sternly against them. Meanwhile, the MCD team seized about four truckloads of materials from vendors encroaching on the footpaths and roads in the market areas near Clock Tower.
Talking to media persons, the mayor said, “The businessmen are out brothers. Recently I had held a meeting with representatives of the businessmen from various areas of the city. We had asked for their cooperation in keeping the city clean and beautiful. They had assured us cooperation but today when I visited Paltan Bazaar I found the situation to be very bad. This is the last warning to the businessmen- they should not extend their presence beyond their legitimate space. If they don’t mend their ways, we will do the needful,” he said.
Meanwhile, the MCD land superintendent Dharmendra Painuly informed that about 23 municipal personnel were involved in the drive on Monday. “Four truckloads of the products and carts of the unauthorised vendors were seized. The drive on Monday was conducted in market areas of Dispensary Road, Clock Tower, Moti Bazaar and other areas. The seized materials will be with us till May 15 after which the traders can take their materials back after paying the fine.”
