A man was killed and his wife seriously injured when a passenger bus hit their motorcycle near Rankia village under the Kamakhyanagar police station in
Dhenkanal district on Saturday morning.
The deceased was identified as Gatikrushna Khuntia, a resident of Mathakargola of the district.
The bus that was coming from Jiral dashed against the bike from behind. The couple was travelling by the bike to Bolua village to meet their relatives. Khuntia died on the spot.
Locals rescued Khuntia’s injured wife and took her to the Dhenkanal District Headquarters Hospital. The woman was later shifted to the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack.
Following the tragedy, irate locals blocked the Jiral-Pandua road.
Police reached the spot to convince the villagers to withdraw the blockade.
