Man, newly-wed son thrashed on marriage day in Sundargarh

Sunday, 30 June 2019 | MAlAY RAY | SUNDARGARH

A man and his just-married son lodged a complaint with the police here alleging that they were beaten by the father of the bride over a trivial issue and not allowed to take with them the bride.

All this, even after the marriage had been solemnised.

The complainants were Manoj and his father Linga Rohidas of Bargad village under Sadar police limits in Sundargarh.

The Barat had gone on June 28 to the groom’s house at Dumbahal under Lepripara police limits and the marriage had been solemnized.

The guests in the Barat had joined the banquet. Everything was well and good.

However, the feud took place just before the bidding of farewell (bidai) of the bride when the father of the bride demanded the money receipt from Rohidas of a saree which he had purchased for his daughter-in-law for Rs 6,000.

The father of bride could not satisfy himself with the quality of saree and demanded the money receipt and when Rohidas told he had

not brought money receipt of saree, all the hell broke loose.

The father of the bride got berserk and began to beat Rohidas and his son and did not let his daughter to go with them.

After hearing about the incident, some members of the Barat rushed tried to calm down the irate father of the bride but in vain.

SDPO, Sadar, Sundargarh, B Deep said, “I have told Lepripara police to inquire about the incident and take necessary action.”
