With polling day drawing close in the national Capital, Congress candidate from New Delhi Lok Sabha seat, Ajay Maken on Monday held various public meeting in his constituency. Leaving no stone unturned to win election, Maken during his campaign hit out at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and said BJP is trying to hide its failures in creating employment and boosting economic activity by raking up non issues.
Maken had visited AyurVigyan Nagar, Gurudwara Singh Sabha, Jungpura Extension, Sat Nagar, Tel Mandi, PaharGanj and various other places as part of his election campaign on Monday.
"The sealing of commercial establishments, an ill conceived complex Goods and Service Tax (GST) and note-bandi (demonetization) had broken the back of the Indian economy. Now, correcting these ill conceived policies would be the top priority of the Congress government when voted to power," said Maken.
Maken accused the BJP candidates of refusing and failing to address the real issues of unemployment and slowdown of the economy. He accused them of diverting the attention of the people by raising non issues. He further accused Modi government of destroying lakhs of businesses through their ill thought out policies.
Maken said that the Congress government would address the issue of unemployment at a war footing. He pointed out that when UPA left office the unemployment rate was 2.3 percent while the unemployment rate under the Prime Minister Narendra Modi government increased to a dismal 7 percent.
"Instead of creating 2 crore jobs annually promised by the BJP government, 4 crore 70 lakhs jobs were lost due the ill thought out demonetization policy & followed by a complex GST," said Maken.
He said that Congress has pledged to fill 22 lakhs government vacancies within one year of coming to power. "If Congress forms government, the party's policies would encourage small and medium traders who are instrumental in creating employment. Congress policies always favoured small and medium businesses and traders which is borne out by the fact that 8-9 lakh businesses were protected from sealing in 2006 and that they would do it again in 2019," said Maken.
He further pointed out that MNREGA, though a policy of employment for rural poor had benefited both traders and economic activity in general as the poor tend to spend what they earn.
"Schemes like MNREGA and NYAY would lead to increase in demand for goods and services. As a consequence there would be increase in production lead to better employment opportunities," said Maken
He reiterated that Modi government was anti businessmen and anti government employees. He said that economic performance of the government was dismal and had led to massive unemployment.
