The forest department has advised people to remain alert and observe basic precautions while moving in the BHEL and Ranipur areas due to the presence of a leopard close to settlements. Last week, a person was attacked by a leopard in Ranipur area. More recently, on Tuesday, a leopard was seen on the boundary wall of a school in Ranipur. The big cat has been spotted mostly in Ranipur sectors 3 and 4 including the PAC campus apart from being spotted on the BHEL hospital road.
The Haridwar divisional forest officer Akash Verma informed that the forest department has installed four cages and a few cameras also at different locations. Two cages each have been placed in Ranipur and at the labour colony.
The area frequented by the leopard is being monitored through cameras too. He further informed that it is difficult to ascertain whether the leopard being spotted is the one which had attacked a man last week.
The area surrounding BHEL is forested and has various wild animals. At times some of them also tend to enter residential localities, he added.
