Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports (Independent Charge) and Minority Affairs, Kiren Rijiju on Saturday said that Khelo India campaign is already going on in the country and now, another campaign with the name of Fit India, will be launched at the national level.
“For this, preparations are going on in full swing. It is under the active consideration that what strategy or process will be adopted for this,” said the Minister, who participated in the prize distribution ceremony and gave away prizes to the winners at the conclusion of the 6th National Wheelchair Basketball Championship for Men and Women, 2019 at Sector 78, Sports Complex, Mohali.
While interacting with the mediapersons, Rijiju said that a new sports policy is being introduced soon, under which every player will be supported by the government whether the player is of national or state level.
He said that the Union Sports Ministry is going to have a meeting with the Sports Departments of all the states soon, for ensuring the best interests of the players with the help of the State Governments.
He said that there is a need for strengthening the sports infrastructure in the country for which all preparations are being made.
Rijiju also said that the performance of India at Olympics has not been good for quite some time. Last time too, India had brought two medals only, so this time the mission of the Sports Ministry will be Tokyo 2020, under which the players will be given all the facilities. And, this time the effort will be to improve India's performance in the Tokyo Olympics, he added.
