After two years of deadlock in the Keonjhar District Truck Owners’ Association, election of office-bearers was held under tight security in which Ramakanta Nayak was elected as president and Surya Narayan Kar as the general secretary.
Out of 2,837 member voters, 2,644 turned up to vote. Nayak won as president defeating his nearest contestant Ramchandra Bhuyan by 227 votes. Kar won by 105 votes defeati8ng his nearest rkival Pradip Barik.
The other elected office-bearers are Dillip Panda, vice-president, Keonjhar zone, Padmalochan Sahoo, vice-president, Ghasipura zone, Debashis Pattnaik, joint secretary Sanjay Singh, Rudra Narayan Mishra, treasurer, and Tapan Kumar Barik, Bijay Barik, Jitendra Pati, Debaprasad Prusty, Sunil Barik, Khirod Sahoo, Pratap Ch Sahoo, Kulamani Sahoo, Sudeep Sahoo, Bhagawan Sahoo, Bijay Sahoo, Ajay Kumar Sahoo, Bibhu Ranjan Palei, Rabindra Puhan and Rajendra Biswal executive body members from respective zones.
As transport is a multi-crore business in minerals-rich Keonjhar district, the truck owners’ association plays an important role, for which the election of its office-bearers is considered no less than any Assembly polls.
