With the daily temperature dipping to below eight degree Celsius, people of Balangir are experiencing a sudden cold here.
Since last few days there has been a sudden drop in the temperature and without gloves and jacket, it is not possible to come out from house both in morning and evening, said Prithviraj, a local, standing beside a roadside fire at Sonepur Chowk.
"We experienced cold conditions all of sudden and for the old age people, life is very difficult," explained Jaya Krishna Patel, an old man while sitting near the roadside fire.
The sudden drop in the temperature has also affected the number of visitors coming to tea stalls in morning. "After the cold wave situation, there is a drop in the visitors to my tea stall," admitted Nila.
Besides affecting the business it has also affected the farmers too.
Due to the cold wave situation, the farmers are going to their khet (agriculture field) very late. Consequently, less work is done, told a young farmer.
While the cold wave has affected normal life and business, it has brought cheers for woolen cloth sellers.
"After the sudden drop in temperature, more and more people are thronging to our woolen shops over the last three-four days " said Chuing, a Tibetan youth, selling woolen clothes. Chuing came to Balangir for the first time from Chandragiri of Gajapati district.
This sudden cold wave has enlightened the minds of poets. "Change of temperature and season is a law of nature and it would continue," said Sandeep Kaunar, a poet.
