Rs 10-lakh brown sugar seized; peddler held

Baleswar: A special squad on Friday seized 100 grams of brown sugar worth of Rs 10 lakh and arrested the peddler. The accused identified as Dalruddin (35) of village Rajpura was forwarded to court after being booked under the NDPS Act.

Pangolin rescued from house in Athagarh 

Athagarh: Forest officials on Friday rescued an Indian pangolin from a house in Kharod village near Talachandragiri Reserve Forest under the Badamba Range of Athagarh Forest Division. The rescued pangolin is currently kept in the Badamba Forest Range and would later be released in the Nandankanan Zoo, said Athagarh Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Sasmita Lenka. “The pangolin might have strayed into the village from the Talachandragiri forest. Arrangements are being made to shift the animal to Nandankanan,” Lenka added.

2 trucks collide in M’bhanj; 1 dies, 1 critical 

Baripada: A driver was killed and another sustained critical injuries as two trucks collided head-on at Dwarasuni Ghati under the Bangiriposi police limits in Mayurbhanj district late on Thursday night. The identity of the deceased was yet to be ascertained. Following the incident, vehicular movements on NH-49 between Bisoi and Bangiriposi was disrupted for over three hours. Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on both sides of the NH.

Sports Day observed in Ganjam 

Brahmapur: The National Sports Day was observed by different sports organisation of Ganjam district and Brahmapur on Thursday. In a programme at Brahmapur Stadium, Brahmapur MP Chandra Sekhar Sahu, MLA Bikram Kumar Panda, Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange and former MLA Dr Ramesh Chandra Chyau Patnaik attended as guests. They paid tributes to Major Dhyan Chand as the day is celebrated to mark his birth anniversary. Many sportsmen took part in a procession which started from stadium premises and culminated at Khallikote College Square. Among others, District Sports Officer Prasant Kumar Sahu, Brahmapur Sports Association general secretary Ashok Sahu and stadium Officer In-Charge Kajal Sahu were present.

Adani Foundation observes Sports Day

Dhamra: The Adani Foundation observed the National Sports Day at the Bania High School, Bhadrak by organising Kho-Kho and Kabaddi tournament among the girls student of Bania and Rambhila High Schools. On the occasion, five national-level sports personalities Kalpana Sahoo, Jigyanshu Dixit, Rakhal Kumar Sethi, Srikant Kumar Jena and Saswati Nayak were honoured with the DPCL Khel Sanman Award 2019. Among others, Dhamra Port CEO Subrat Tripathy and District Sports Officer Manoj Kumar Das were present.
