Odisha-born Tripathy appointed TN DGP Bhubaneswar: IPS officer Jalad Kumar Tripathy has been appointed as the Director General of Police (DGP) and Head of Police Force of Tamil Nadu with effect from July 1. Prior to this, the Odisha-born 1985-batch Punjab-cadre officer was serving as the DGP of Uniformed Services Recruitment Board in Tamil Nadu.
Rourkela doctor Naik gets PhD
Bhubaneswar: Diabetologist Dr A Naik has been conferred PhD by a Central American University last week at Hyderabad. ICFAI University Vice-Chancellor Dr Jagannth Pattnaik awarded him in the presence of Geetam University Dean Prof Chintakindi Sanjay and ICFAI's Indian representative Dr Rajesh. He was conferred the degree in the field of diabetic reversal and latest treatment. Dr Naik runs a diabetic care centre in Rourkela and has cured over 7,000 patients. He said a change in the lifestyle of the patients can control the diseases to a great extent.
CARE Hospitals launches Bariatric ESG
Bhubaneswar: The CARE Hospitals on Saturday announced the launch of a non-surgical weight loss procedure programme ‘Bariatric Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG)’ first time in the State led by Dr Mohit Bhandari, who has performed more than 11,000 bariatric operations. Dr Bhandari said the ESG is a new-fangled weight-loss procedure and it reduces the size of a stomach using an endoscopic suturing device without the need for surgery. He also said that patients can lose 15-25 kg depending on multiple factors through the procedure.
Youth dies being hit by truck in Balangir
Balangir: A youth was killed when he was hit by a paddy-laden truck at Kendubahali on the Bangomunda-Sindheikela road on Saturday morning. He was identified as Gharua Satnami, a resident of Bangomunda. The truck overturned after hitting the youth. Irate locals staged a road blockade demanding compensation for the deceased’s family.
Aasta Foundation holds plantation drive
Bhubaneswar: The Aasta Foundation Trust, which aims to plant one lakh saplings after Cyclone Fani, organised a plantation drive at the Amareswar Temple premises in Jajpur district on Friday. Foundation chairman Dr Stalin Mishra and local MLA Amar Satpathy attended as guests and planted saplings. They urged the youths to plant a sapling each and take care of it to save the environment.
