AAP appoints 3 district presidents of SC wing

Chandigarh: Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Punjab unit on Monday appointed three district presidents of the Scheduled Caste (SC) wing with immediate effect to strengthen its organisational base in the State. SC wing secretary (general) and state core committee member Baljinder Singh Chaunda said that after consultation with the state president of the SC wing, Manjit Singh Bilaspur, and vice-president Kulwant Singh Pandori (both MLAs), Ashok Kumar Sirswal was appointed president of the SC wing Patiala district (Rural), Subedar Kulwant Singh from Gurdaspur district and Santosh Kumar Gogi Phagwara was elected president of Kapurthala district.

UHBVN to redress consumers’ grievances

Chandigarh: The complaints of the consumers of Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam will be redressed by the members of Consumer Grievance Redressal Forum in the month of January next year. The members of the forum will visit a number of places in January next year and will also take-up pending complaints. Spokesperson said that the office of Superintending Engineer will remain open for filing of new complaints as well which will provide consumers relief that the hearing of their case will take place at the nearest location.

Punjab Govt extends school holidays till Jan 3

Chandigarh: Giving a relief to the school students, Punjab Government on Monday extended the winter holidays amid cold wave in northern India, including Punjab. The school will now open on January 3, 2020 instead of January 1, 2020. The winter holidays in all government and private schools in the state started from December 25, till December 31. Due to extreme cold conditions, Punjab Education Department has decided to reopen the school on January 3.

50 gm heroin, 18 kg chura post seized, 3 held

Chandigarh: Haryana Police, in separate cases, has nabbed three drug peddlers including a woman and seized 50 gram of heroin and 18 kg chura post from their possession in Fatehabad district. Spokesperson said that in the first case, a team of Crime Investigation Agency arrested Swarno Bai of Fatehabad on the charges of possessing 50 gram heroin. In another case, CIA team arrested Ravi Parkash and Subhash Chander after recovering 18 kg of chura post from their possession.

RICM organises one day workshop

Chandigarh: Regional Institute of Cooperative Management, Sector 32 - C, Chandigarh organized workshop on Agri Start ups: Role of Innovation and Technology in Cooperative development in India.  The event was sponsored by NABARD, Punjab and co sponsored by KRIBHCO and HAFED. Punjab Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa inaugurated the event by lightning the lamp.  R.K. Sharma, Director of the institute emphasized the role of Agri start ups in the overall development of farmers and creation of extra employment opportunities.

3-day New Year Bash 2020 at New Chandigarh

PU Prof attends DPA ceremony at New Delhi

Chandigarh: Prof Archana R Singh of Panjab University’s School of Communication Studies, being the jury member, attended the Dadasaheb Phalke Award ceremony at the Rashtrapathi Bhavan along with other jury members of the 66th National Film Awards. President Ram Nath Kovind hosted the high tea on December 29 in honour of the awardees. Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javdekar, the awardee Amitabh Bachchan and other award winners were present.

Himachal CM calls on Lok Sabha Speaker

Shimla: Himachal Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Monday called on Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla at New Delhi on Monday.  The CM requested the Speaker for setting up e-Vidhan Academy at Tapovan in Dharamshala. He said that Himachal Vidhan Sabha is functioning completely on e-Vidhan system and added that Himachal wants to set up e-Vidhan academy to impart training to legislators of all states. He also requested him to visit the state to witness the functioning of e-Vidhan Sabha. Birla assured that he would provide full support for the project and also visit the state soon.
