kBEO Head Clerk caught taking bribe in Angul

Angul: Head Clerk of Banarpala Block Education Office (BEO) in Angul district Ranjan Kumar Nayak was arrested by Vigilance officials for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 3,000 from Patrapada Primary School teacher Prashant Sahu on Wednesday.

Brawl claims youth’s life in M’bhanj

Baripada: A group clash after a football match claimed the life of a youth and left another critically injured in Karanjia of Mayurbhanj district. According to reports, the brawl erupted between two groups of youths at Dumurisahi over passing of objectionable comments on Tuesday evening while they were returning home after the football match at Nadigadia. Two of them were critically injured and admitted to the Karanjia Sub-Divisional Hospital, where Laxman Munda succumbed to his injuries.

Online group created to donate blood

Champua: Barbil social media group ‘Barbil Halchal’ has created an online group with an aim to create blood donors through online. Social activist Chittaranjan Kar said that in the group anybody who is interested to donate blood can register themselves with their names and blood groups. And at the time of need they would be contacted to donate blood, he added. The group has more than a thousand members and hundreds have registered their names expressing their desire to donate blood.

B’pur Press Club holdS badminton tourney

Brahmapur: The 2nd Jayabardhan Memorial inter-media badminton tournament organised by the Brahmapur Press Club in memory of senior scribe Jaya Bandhana Dash was held at the Khallikote College Indoor hall here on Republic Day (Saturday). SR DIG Asish Singh, BeMC Commissioner Chakravarti Singh Rathore and Brahmapur SP Pinak Mishra attended as guests. Among others, Minati Tripathy, daughter Sakti Swarupa Dash, scribes Sisir Panigrahi, Jagmohan Mohapatra, Rajendra Jena, Prakash Patnaik, Sudip Sahu and Deba Hari Behera were present. In singles, Vicky Jena was the winner; and in doubles Sachin Behera and Gyanendra Rath were the winners.

GKEL wins Red Cross award

Bhubaneswar: The GMR Kamalanga Energy Limited (GKEL) along with the GMR Varalakshmi Foundation (GMRVP) had organised two blood donation camps in their premises and have collected a total of 289 units of blood in 2018. For the initiative, the GKEL was awarded as “Best Corporate House” by the Odisha Red Cross Bank and Dhenkanal district. GMRVP senior programme leader Dillip Kumar Kar received the award from Revenue Minister Maheswar Mohanty in the presence of Dhenkanal Collector Nikhil Pavan Kalyan during the Republic Day celebration.

Paradip: The IFFCO Paradeep unit celebrated the 70th Republic Day here recently. Unit senior GM AK Panda hoisted the National Flag and addressed the gathering. He appealed employees and family members to maintain safety norms strictly at work place, at home and on road. On the occasion, awards were given to meritorious students and employees. Among others, DGM (HR) GC Acharya, DGM (P and A) AK Mall, IFFCO Officers’ Association president Mangal Murty, general secretary Subashis Mishra, IFFCO Employees’ Union president Suvendu Majhi, general secretary Trupti Ranjan Puhan and PRO Prasanna Kumar Beura were present.
