CM, Minister, others condole Thukral’s demise

Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, Local Bodies Minister Brahm Mohindra among others condoled the death of eminent journalist Gobind Thukral, who died on Sunday morning at the age of 80. Thukral, who had been ailing for quite some time, is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. Describing Thukral as one of north India’s leading journalists, Capt Amarinder said that he had contributed immensely to both English vernacular media, particularly during the dark period of militancy, on which he reported fearlessly. Mohindra said that Thukral remained very close to him when he used to report on militancy. Media Advisor to Chief Minister Raveen Thukral also expressed grief at Thukral’s demise. All offered their deepest condolences to the family in their hour of sorrow.

Mohindra discharged from hospital after 20 days

Chandigarh: Punjab Local Bodies Minister Brahm Mohindra was on Sunday discharged from the Fortis Hospital, Mohali. He was seen off by the team of doctors of the Hospital. Mohindra was admitted in hospital more than 20 days back after he complained of chronic cough accompanied by pain. Later Dr TS Mahant and his team performed an open-heart bypass surgery on September 11. Mohindra has been recovering well after the bypass, and was discharged from the hospital on Sunday.

Ban plastic awareness drive by students

Chandigarh: Awareness drive to ‘ban use of single use plastic’ was conducted by the students of Banyan Tree School, Sector 48, Chandigarh, on Sunday in the neighbourhood sector markets. The Grade IV students acted as responsible citizens as they made a commitment to take an initiative to create awareness to ban plastic and make the School and City plastic free. The message was conveyed through posters, slogans and songs, besides distributing hand-made paper bags to the shopkeepers.

Public Health, Management Programme to begin

Chandigarh: A five-day Public Health Policy and Management Programme for policy makers will begin at PGIMER from September 30 to October 4. The program will be organised by Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health, PGIMER at Hotel Shivalik View, Sector 17 here. This flagship program is second program in series which caters on building capacity of policy makers and senior implementers of 161 countries in Asia, Africa, East Europe, Latin America, the Caribbean as well as Pacific and Small Island countries. It aims to build capacity of senior level policy makers for addressing contextual public health challenges in their countries and showcase best practices in Public Health in India so that they replicate it in their country for overall attainment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Deepak Sood appointed ASSOCHAM Secretary General

Chandigarh: Deepak Sood, an industry leader with over two-and-half decades of experience in Corporate India, Government and Fortune 500 companies, took over as Secretary General of the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM), the country's apex business chamber.  Sood had earlier worked as Executive Director of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

Workshop held in PGIMER

Chandigarh: National hands on workshop on “Application of Flow cytometry in Pharmacology and Drug discovery” was organized in the experimental Pharmacology laboratory of Prof Bikash Medhi, Department of Pharmacology, PGIMER from September 27-29 with support of Thermo Fisher Scientific under the aegis of Medical Pharmacological Society (MPS).Main focus of the workshop was to train the medical fraternity about importance of flow cytometry in translational research and drug discovery.

3-day long World Heart Day campaign flagged off

Chandigarh: A three-day long, World Heart Day Campaign by Strategic Institute For Public Health Education and Research (SIPHER) was flagged off by Prof. Dr Jagat Ram, Director PGIMER. The campaign is being conducted in collaboration with PGIMER, IMA-Chandigarh, and Ojas Multi-specialty Hospital, Panchkula. The members of Chandigarh Cycling and Run club joined the rally from PGIMER to Sukhna Lake. The highlight of the campaign was an audio-visual publicity van for generating awareness on public health importance of various activities for a disease-free heart.

ISUZU announces attractive offers

Ludhiana: ISUZU announced attractive offers for its products in India which ranges from Rs 50,000 for the Commercial variant of D-Max (Single Cab) to Rs 2,00,000 on the up-market SUV, the mu-X.
