PSWC head holds meeting with inter departmental committees

Chandigarh: Punjab State Women Commission chairperson Manisha Gulati on Wednesday held a meeting with Inter Departmental Prevention of Sexual Harassment Committees to know the status of complaints of sexual harassment at workplaces. In the meeting, representatives of Health, Education and Local Bodies Department were present. Gulati asked the committees members to be more sensitive and more careful to check genuineness of complaints before taking adverse action.

Azure inaugurates solar rooftop project in Punjab

Patiala: Azure Power recently inaugurated 174.5kW solar rooftop power plant in Central Jail in Patiala in the presence of Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and Azure Power co-founder Preet Sandhu. The project is a part of a five MW project to electrify 19 correctional facilities in Punjab. The electricity, generated by the plant, will be sold at a tariff of Rs 3.32 per kWh for a period of 25 years. The five MW project is a part of a 50 MW solar project won by Azure Power in bid conducted by Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) to electrify Government of India buildings across 10 States.

PU Hindi Dept celebrates Jaishankar Prasad Jayanti

Chandigarh: Panjab University’s Department of Hindi on Wednesday organised a special literary programme to pay tribute to eminent author Jaishankar Prasad, commemorating his birth anniversary. Prasad is known for his contribution to Hindi literature in genres of poetry, drama, novels and short stories. Department chairperson Dr Gurmeet Singh said that the programme began with a short film on the life and works of Jaishankar Prasad, which was followed by student presentations that explored various dimensions of his works.

Rotaract Club’s “Umeed ki Aawaz” crosses 100-mark

Chandigarh: The Umeed ki Aawaz program of Rotaract Club Chandigarh, that started in August last year, has completed more than a hundred hours. The Umeed ki Aawaz programme is a voice recording service for helping blind and visually impaired students. The program has been in operation for the past four years. The objective to initiate such a scheme was to ensure that all visually disabled students can listen and understand fluently all textbooks. So far, various members from the club have volunteered enthusiastically to read and record texts.

Dhruve Pandove Cricket Trust holds blood donation camp

Patiala: Dhruve Pandove Cricket Trust on Wednesday organised a blood donation camp in the memory of late ace cricketer Dhruve Pandove. The camp was inaugurated by former Union Minister Preneet Kaur, who said that blood donation is a very noble gesture and is the highest service to the society. More than hundred sports persons and people from all walks of life donated blood in this camp.

HMCH-26 holds blood donation camp

Chandigarh: Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital, Sector-26, Chandigarh, in collaboration with Rotary and Blood Bank Society Resource Centre, Chandigarh, on Wednesday organised a blood donation camp in the College premises. The camp was inaugurated by Homoeopathic Medical College Association secretary Dr PK Mittal. A total of 52 units of blood were collected from the students and staff of the college.
