In an incident of mob justice, locals of Burobhadi village under the Puintala police station in the district on Tuesday night thrashed a girl and three youths suspecting them of running a sex racket in the area.
Reports said the girl and other youths were staying in a rented house in the village for quite some time. Some villagers suspected that a sex racket was being run from the house and had informed police. But as the cops did not take any action regarding the matter, they dragged all four of them from their house. Then they tied them to an electric pole and thrashed them brutally.
Getting information, police rushed to the spot and rescued the youths and girl from the villagers’ clutch. Police have detained the three youths for interrogation while the girl has been sent to a rehabilitation centre. Sources said the youths are natives of Sonepur district while the girl belongs to Sambalpur.
