The police of Baleswar and Mayurbhanj initiated action to track down miscreants after report of stealing of oil from a moving tanker by unidentified armed miscreants was reported.
According to sources, the miscreants siphoned off 22,000 litres after hijacking the tanker which was heading towards Angul from Haldia (Bengal) on Wednesday night. The armed miscreants hijacked the tanker laden with fuel near Remuna Golai after tying the driver and helper of the lorry.
According to the duo, they were freed near a jungle under Jharpokharia police station of Mayurbhanj while the miscreants sped away with the tanker. They while informed about the incident to their owner, the latter informed police. The police of Remuna, Bangiriposhi and Kuliana carried out raids and blocked in the probable exit points. However, with the GPS tracking system, the tanker was detected near a roadside dhaba at Kalabadia. The police seized the tanker but found no fuel in it. The police are also interrogating both the helper and driver and verifying their roles, said sources. "We are investigating the case and the tanker has been found," said a police officer of Baripada.
