Not satisfied with the affidavit submitted by the State regarding construction of slaughter houses in the state, the High Court has sought the status report of the special leave petition filed by the state in the Supreme Court on March 1. In the affidavit submitted by the state in the HC, it was stated that committees have been formed in departments concerned for construction of slaughter houses and directions have been issued for upgradation of slaughters houses in the local bodies where they exist. However, the advocate for the petitioner stated that the SLP of the State Government in Supreme Court was defective but was not being removed so that the case remains pending in SC. Considering this, the HC directed the State Government to submit the status report of the SLP on Friday.
According to the case details, on the directions of the HC, the State Government had closed illegal abattoirs in the state. Challenging this step, Mohammed Yunus of Ramnagar and Zakir Hasan of Nainital stated that in 2011, the HC had directed that abattoirs be constructed as per the rules in the state. However, this has not been done eight years later. Hearing the case on Wednesday, the bench of chief justice Ramesh Ranganathan and justice Ramesh Chandra Khulbe was not satisfied by the affidavit submitted by the State.
