The Uttarakhand Fire and Emergency Services (UFES) has been inspecting institutions in and around Haridwar for fire safety arrangements and NOCs obtained from the department.
The team has issued notices to 20 coaching centres till now and asked them to submit details of corrective measures undertaken by them for fire safety. If they fail to respond in the stipulated time, the department will take action against them.
Speaking to The Pioneer, the fire station officer Anil Kumar said that in the district 20 such coaching centres were found to be without proper fire safety arrangements. “We have issued notices to the managers of these institutions and if they fail to respond in one week, strict action will be taken against them.
The team is also inspecting the hotels and public places like malls to check whether ample arrangements are made for fire extinguishers.” It is pertinent to mention here that the UFES has sprung into action in the wake of the recent coaching centre fire at Surat in Gujarat which had resulted in the death of 22 persons, mostly children.
Similar drives are being conducted in Dehradun and other parts of the state by the department to check fire safety in various institutions.
