Tension gripped the spot of Remuna Mahotsav in Baleswar district on Tuesday night as a clash erupted between two groups leaving at least ten persons injured.
Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC were clamped at the place. Police forces were deployed at the spot to avoid further untoward incidents.
Some youths of nearby Ginipur village were managing a paid parking lot at the festival during which an argument ensued between them and several youths of neighbouring Mandarpur village.
It soon took an ugly turn as the groups attacked each other with sharp weapons. Police resorted to lathi-charge to take the situation under control. Later, Section 144 was imposed. Police also ordered closure of shops and markets from the Gopinath Temple area to Remuna as a part of precautionary measure.
The injured were admitted to the Remuna Community Health Centre.
