A girl has committed suicide after being raped by a 25-year-old man four days ago in the Manmunda area of Boudh district.
According to reports, one Narendra Pradhan of Jamulapadar village had allegedly on September 25 raped the 19-year-old girl when she had gone to the backyard of her house.
Fearing social stigma, the girl consumed pesticide in a bid to end her life. She was rescued in a critical condition and admitted to the VIMSAR in Burla. However, she died while undergoing treatment on Friday.
Acting on a complaint lodged by the father of the girl, the Manamunda police on Sunday detained the accused for questioning.
