The State recorded 66 per cent polling by 5 pm in elections held in six Lok Sabha and 41 Assembly constituencies in the fourth phase of polls on Monday.
Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Baleswar, Bhadrak and Jajpur Lok Sabha constituencies and 41 Assembly segments under them went to the polls.
Polling percentage is likely to increase as voting was going on at many booths after 5 pm. While voters started standing in queues at a total of 10,792 polling stations before the polling began at 7 am, the process at some booths was delayed due to malfunctioning of EVMs.
Fates of 52 Lok Sabha candidates and 336 Assembly nominees were locked in EVMs.
This phase of polls was also significant as BJP national vice-president Baijayant Panda was pitted against BJD candidate and noted cine star
Anubhab Mohanty in the Kendrapara Lok Sabha seat.
The fates of BJD candidate and sitting MP Rabindra Jena and PCC president’s son Nabajyoti Patnaik (Baleswar LS seat) and BJP candidate and former MP Bibhu Prasad Tarai and BJD candidate Dr Rajashiree Mallick (Jagatsinghpur LS segment) were sealed.
In the Assembly polls, fates of incumbent Ministers Ananta Das and Prafulla Samal, Government Chief Whip Amar Prasad Satpathy, former Ministers Damodar Rout, Pranab Prakash Das, Raghunath Mohanty and Bishnu Das and many sitting MLAs, including Chiranjib Biswal, Prashant Muduli and Pritiranjan Ghadai, would also be decided.
It may be noted that elections to the Patkura Assembly constituency will be held on May 19. Counting of votes will be done on May 23 when all seven phases of polls are completed in the country.
