For the air travellors, Wednesday was the day of chaos as conflicting information floated on the social media platforms about the government deciding to close down Dehradun airport, Jollygrant after Pakistan Air Force planes intruded Indian air space in Rajauri sector of Jammu and Kashmir. Passengers faced problems as many operators cancelled their flights. The operators which cancelled their flights on the day included Indigo, Spicejet and Jet Airways.
Throughout the day, the passengers were seen inquiring into the status of their flights from the officials. “My flight scheduled at 4 pm for Hyderabad has been cancelled. Though it is inconvenient, I am ready to face problems for the sake of the country,’’ said Surya Prakash of Hyderabad. Jermock of Italy said that he is unaware as to what had caused suspension of flights. Contacted, the director Dehradun Airport Vinod Sharma clearly said that the airport was fully operational on the day.
“Since the Jammu and Amritsar airports were closed, the flights to these destinations were cancelled. Later in the day, Indigo, Jet and Spicejet suspended their flights. At 2.15 pm, a flight for Jaipur departed while Alliance Air’s Pantnagar flight operated. The airport is operational as we have received no instruction to close down,’’ he said.
Sharma claimed that all the flights scheduled for Thursday would remain operational.
Notably, Dehradun airport caters 2000 to 2500 passengers a day with about 22 flights operating from here.
