Female jumbo found dead in Kuldiha

Tuesday, 31 December 2019 | PNS | BALESWAR

A five-year-old female elephant was found dead in the Kuldiha sanctuary by the patrolling staff on Sunday.

The carcass of the jumbo was traced by the staffs near Gohiradahi under Beat no-2 of the Kuldiha range. They said that the pachyderm might have died three days ago.

Divisional Forest Officer Biswaraj Panda, after confirming the death of the jumbo, said that the carcass was burnt after carrying out postmortem by veterinary surgeons.

“The death suggests that the elephant died during mating and a fighting between two tuskers. There are some evidences relating to the death. However, the autopsy report is awaited,” said Panda.
