The Delhi Police on Monday arrested father and son duo for allegedly killing a man in Delhi’s Bawana area following an alteration over a petty issue. Police said they have also recovered a country-made pistol which was used in commission of crime.
The accused have been identified as Vijay Kataria (46) and his son Chirag (18), both residents of Pana Maddan in Bawana.
According to BK Singh, the Additional Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch, on December 28, specific inputs were received that Vijay Kataria and Chirag would be coming to Bawana sometime in the evening.
“Acting on the tip-off a trap was laid and Vijay Kataria and his son Chirag were apprehended near Hanuman temple in Bawana. During interrogation it was revealed that Vijay Kataria is a chronic alcoholic. On December 27, at about 08.00 pm, he was standing in the middle of the road in front of his house and abusing everyone who passed by,” said the Additional CP.
Vijay also abused one Mohit, a resident of Bawana. When Mohit objected, Vijay Kataria slapped him.
When Rahul, who is also a resident of Bawana along with others tried to intervene, Vijay Kataria called out his son Chirag to save him. Chirag took out a country made pistol and fired at Rahul, said the Additional CP.
“Rahul collapsed at the spot and was later declared brought dead at the hospital. After shooting Rahul, both Vijay Kataria and his son Chirag managed to escape from the spot,” said the Additional CP.
“Bawana Police Station was informed about the arrest of the accused persons. Further investigation of the case is in progress,” the Additional CP added.
