The family of a six-year-old girl of Nayagarh district on Wednesday knocked at the door of the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) for justice after the girl lost an eye due to prescription of a wrong medicine by a doctor at the Nayagarh District Headquarters Hospital (DHH).
The girl’s father Chandramani Gochhayat of Nachhipur village in the district, in his petition sought action against the Doctor, Pharmacist and Nayagarh CDMO.
Chandramani had taken his daughter to the DHH for treatment after she suffered a minor injury in her right eye. A doctor prescribed a medicine and asked Chandramani to administer four to five drops in the child’s eye.
Chandramani has alleged that Rinki lost vision in one of her eyes after using the prescribed medicine.
Following this, she was taken to at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar, where it was ascertained that the medicine prescribed in Nayagarh DHH was an eardrop and not an eye drop. The petetioner alleged that Nayagarh CDMO Sweta Mohapatra took no steps after ordering a probe into the matter. Later, Mohapatra assured Rs 15,000 for the girl’s treatment after the matter become public.
Chandramani has also lodged a complaint with the Nayagarh Town police in this connection.
