Doctors of the Balanga Hospital have reportedly created history in the Odisha medical science by successfully delivering an abdominal girl baby without any latest medical facilities at a rural hospital in the area.
Balanga Hospital Medical Officer Dr Ashok Kumar Mishra said that this rare disease, called ‘Gastrochisis’. develops birth defect in a baby and happens due to smoking and consumption of alcohol by a pregnant woman. Its cure was a very challenging task.
“Even if we don’t have adequate medical facilities and technical equipments to support for delivery of the baby yet we conducted the case with our experience about the lady,” Dr Mishra added.
Dr Mishra, Ayush doctor Swarup Kumar Sahoo and nurse Harapriya Sahoo on Tuesday treated Sumitra Behera (30), wife of Babula Behera of Bhagabatipur village, and delivered the abdominal baby.
As after delivery the health condition of the baby and her mother deteriorated, they were rushed to the SCB Medical College Hospital, Cuttack. Now, the health conditions of baby and the woman are stated to be stable.
