The members of the Balangir Action Committee led by Gopalji Panigrahi on Wednesday staged a sit-in protest before the town police station, over the deteriorating law and order in Balangir town.
The activists raised slogans against the apathy of police and demanded a halt to the open sale of banned drugs like Korex which is consumed by the youths for intoxication.
They submitted a 5-point charter of demands to the Chief Minister through the district administration.
“The law and order situation in Balangir town has deteriorated and the killing of marketing executive Pratap Mahapatra is the latest example of it. We demand adequate patrolling by PCR vans, closure of illegal country liquor shop, arrest of anti social elements and installation of CCTV cameras in sensitive places of town,” said Panigrahi.
Meanwhile, Balangir town police station OIC Gokulanda Sahu said three persons have been arrested in connection with the murder of Pratap Mahapatra and raids are on at other places.
