Das campaigns in JMM bastion

Saturday, 30 November 2019 | Parvinder Bhatia | Jamshedpur

Chief Minister Raghubar Das on Friday reiterated that the party is confident about winning more than 65 seats in the Assembly elections in the State. And for this, he added that voters must shun dynasty politics. During his whirlwind tour to West Singhbhum district, Das covered four assembly seats and targeted Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Congress party.

While addressing voters at JMM’s stronghold – Chaibasa and Chakradharpur—he said the state government has worked towards the welfare of the people and implementing schemes with responsibility and transparency. He motivated the voters to shun dynasty politics. The CM also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's victories in 2014 and 2019 are a rejection of the vote bank and caste politics.

Das held rallies at Budhi Ghora High School ground and Baghmara ground, both under Chakradharpur assembly constituency and Nandpur Football ground and Mahuldiha School ground, both under Manoharpur assembly constituency. He was accompanied by Jamshedpur MP Bidyut Baran Mahato, BJP state president Laxman Giluwa –himself a candidate from Chakradharpur assembly—and former Jamshedpur MP and Kurmi leader Shailendra Mahato. He focused on the achievements in terms of infrastructure done by ‘double engine Government’ at center and state and bold decisions for national interest taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Out of the five assembly constituencies in Singhbhum region, BJP did not have a single seat. JMM had won four in 2014 while Geeta Koda who has now joined Congress had won the Jagannathpur seat.

“Under our double engine sarkar we have carried out development both at rural and urban areas on equal footing, in terms of providing electricity, improving road connectivity and providing drinking water connections. With your blessing we will be coming to power and fulfilling our Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream of providing piped drinking water to each village and houses for all by 2022,” said Das. He promised to provide piped water connections.

In his trademark style, Das accused JMM working president Hemant Soren of usurping tribal lands in different parts of the state while counting achievements of his own government due to the ‘double engine sarkar’. “The Soren parivar has looted tribals and used them as vote banks. Our government has opened windows of development in Santhal Pargana and Kolhan in the last five years,” alleged Das.

Reiterating achievement of his government, Das reminded gathering of the Ujjwala Yojana wherein poor women benefited of free LPG gas connections, Sukanya Yojana (financial grant for girl child till their marriage), financial aids for farmers under CM Krishi Ashirwad Yojana and also said that double engine sarkar has made people of the state benefits twice.

The CM’s campaign assumes significance as of the 14 Assembly seats in Kolhan seven are with the JMM, one each with Congress and Ajsu Party, and the BJP has five. The second phase polling for 14 seats will be held on December 7 in Baharagora, Ghatshila (ST), Potka (ST), Jugsalai (SC), Jamshedpur East, Jamshedpur West, Seraikella (ST), Chaibasa (ST), Majhgaon (ST), Jaganathpur (ST), Manoharpur (ST), Chakradharpur (ST), Kharsawan and Kolebira (ST).
