Life came to a standstill in Bokaro and Giridih as river Damodar in Bermo and Usari in Giridih on Sunday were flowing above danger level following heavy rainfall in the district. Several houses and temples near rivers were submerged in water, said sources. Heavy rains in entire in Bermo and release of water from Tenughat dam on Saturday night caused the Damodar river to flow above the danger mark, said SDM Prem Ranjan. He said 50,000 cusecs (cubic foot per second) of water was released leading to the level of the river reaching almost to the deck of new Tenughat bridge.
While the Executive Engineer of Tenuhgat Dam asked people living along the banks of damodar rivers in the region to be alert as water from dam had been released following heavy rains over the past few days.Earlier in the day, an Executive Engineer said water had reached up to the neck of the Dam,while all temples near Jarandih, Phusro and Chalkari are surrounded by water. Bridges like Bokaro thermal and Bermo are attracting crowds watching the rising water levels.
The district administration is asking them to disperse," the official said.He added that a Chhilka bridge on Konar river at Ganjudih village has been closed to traffic due to rising water levels. In rain-related incidents in the Giridih district, a youth identified as Ashok Yadav got washed away in a flooded Usari river near Argaghat Ghat within limits of town police station,police said. Dy Commissioner of Giridih Rahul Sinha and other officials on Saturday visited flooded areas of the city like and also visited Argaghat where the youth got drowned during his bath, officials said.
