Contractual workers of GDMC suspend strike

Saturday, 31 August 2019 | PNS | Dehradun

In view of the dengue surge in Doon valley, the striking contractual workers of the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital suspended their strike on Saturday.

The president of the forum  of contractual workers of the GDMC hospital, Govind said that they have postponed their strike till September 10. He said that the forum has taken this decision in public interest as Dehradun is reeling under attack of dengue.

The decision to suspend their two day old strike was taken by forum on Friday evening.

The functioning GDMC got affected for second consecutive day on Friday due to the strike of contractual workers. These workers assembled in the hospital in the morning where they held a protest in support of their demands. The hospital at present has 57 contractual workers out of whom contract of 32 has not been renewed. These workers allege that they have not received salaries from last six months due to which they are facing many hardships.  The forum also wants that the contract of all the workers should be renewed within next ten days failing which the workers would hit the path of agitation again.

In the strike, the contractual laboratory technicians, radiology technicians, staff nurses, Operation Theatre (OT) workers, Medical Social workers, library staff, speech therapist, audio visual technicians and lab technicians engaged in ELISA test took part.
