The State Congress carrying out screening of its candidates for the upcoming elections is likely to announce tickets for both the Lok Sabha and Assembly by March 10.
A Pradesh Election Committee (PEC) meeting would be held on March 6 and the tickets for party candidates are likely to be finalised by March 10, informed AICC Screening Committee chairman VD Satheesan after attending a party meeting at the Congress Bhawan here on Wednesday.
The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) has been holding the screening process for several days to field “winnable” candidates for both the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
OPCC president Niranjan Patnaik said the party would give tickets to candidates who have winning possibility. Besides, tickets would be also given to young and women candidates.
However, there was an unpleasant scene during the screening process on Wednesday as some party activists shouted slogans against sitting G Udaygiri MLA Jacob Pradhan and demanded that he should not be given ticket this time as this would harm the party’s interests. This was opposed by Pradhan’s supporters which led to a minor scuffle between the two sides.
