Congress seeks rollback of tax on commercial buildings

Saturday, 30 November 2019 | PNS | Dehradun

The Congress party has opposed the decision of Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) to collect property tax on commercial buildings in new municipal wards.  Addressing media persons at the state party office here on Friday, the former Rajpur road MLA, Rajkumar said that that when new areas were added in MCD, the state government had promised that no tax would be imposed in these areas however the MCD has now forgotten the promise and started foisting tax. He said that there is difference in words and action of chief minister and the people are being misled. The Congress Mahanagar president Lal Chand Sharma said that from last five years the house tax is not being taken from the residents of 132 slums due to which they are facing problems. The slum dwellers have to produce the receipt of house tax for various types of certificates but as the tax is not being taken they are facing problem to get the certificates.

The inclusion of the new wards in MCD was opposed by the residents as basic facilities are lacking there but the government went ahead with the merger.

Sharma said that the Congress party would hit streets on the demands of house tax, imposition of commercial tax and absence of basic amenities in the areas of MCD.
