The Congress party has once again reaffirmed their faith on Devti Karma and decided to field her in the upcoming Dantewada by-polls.
“Devti Karma will be Congress party’s candidate in the Dantewada by polls. Her name was finalized in a meeting of All India Congress Committee (AICC) held in New Delhi,” Shailesh Nitin Trivedi, the Chairman Chhattisgarh Congress Communication Department informed.
Notably, Dantewada seat had gone vacant following the death of BJP legislator Bhima Mandavi who was killed along with four policemen when an improvised explosive device (IED) blew up their vehicle near Shyamgiri village in Dantewada on April 9, this year.
Mandavi the loan BJP legislator from tribal dominated Bastar region had defeated Devti Karma by a thin margin of 2172 votes in the 2018 state assembly elections.
Devti Karma wife of late Mahendra Karma -who was killed in the deadly Jheeram Ghati massacre along with around 32 people including the then state Congress party’s top leadership- had registered victory from Dantewada seat in the 2013 state assembly elections.
