The Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has claimed that the BJP will sweep all the five Lok seats and the Opposition Congress has not even found suitable candidates to take on the BJP for these elections.
He was speaking to the mediapersons at the State party office on Saturday after Dhirendra Chauhan, a former BJP leader of Kotdwar rejoined the party.
Incidentally, Chauhan had left the party when his wife Vibha Chauhan was denied BJP ticket for the Mayoral election in Kotdwar last year.
In this election, Chauhan proved his grip over the electorate when his wife cornered substantial number of votes which resulted in defeat of BJP candidate Neetu Rawat, wife of Lansdowne MLA Diplip Rawat.
Terming rejoining of Chauhan who is a former district president of BJP, as a big boost for the party, CM Rawat said that party is poised to win the Garhwal Lok Sabha seat with a big margin. Taking potshots on the Congress party, he said the rate at which its leaders are joining the BJP, it looks as if the Congress has also become saffronised. Rawat said that the situation has came to such an extent for the Congress that it has not even found suitable candidates to contest elections in the five Lok Sabha seats of Uttarakhand.
Giving an example of Haridwar parliamentary constituency, he said that Congress has fielded a candidate who is not even recognised by the people. Speaking on the occasion, the officiating state president of State BJP, Naresh Bansal said that with return of Chauhan into the party’s fold, the margin of victory of Teerath Singh Rawat in Garhwal seat would increase.
