Complete Indravati right canal expansion soon

Wednesday, 31 July 2019 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

Leader of Opposition Pradipta Kumar Naik (BJP) on Tuesday demanded in the State Assembly that the Government expedite the proposed expansion work of the right canal of the Indrabati Irrigation Project in Kalahandi district soon so that 27,000 hactares of land would be irrigated during the Rabi and Kharif seasons.

Raising the issue during the Zero Hour, Naik said while three years passed since the Chief Minister laid foundation for the project in February 2016, the work is going at a snail’s pace. The project cost has also increased from Rs 332 crore to Rs 356 crore.

Stating that farmers have stopped cultivation and suffered about Rs 400 crore during the two years, Naik urged the Speaker to direct the Government to complete the project at the earliest. Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro directed the Water Resources Department to take note of the matter.
