The Union Territory Police on Monday said those drinking liquor at public places, creating noise pollution through exhaust of vehicles and indulging in hooliganism on New Year eve will be dealt with strictly.
In a statement on Monday, the Chandigarh Police said it will conduct a special drive against drunken driving and speeding in the city on the eve of New Year-2020.
"Strict legal action shall be taken against those driving under the influence of alcohol," the statement said, adding vehicles of drunk drivers will be impounded, penalty of Rs. 10,000 may be imposed and their driving licenses may be suspended.
The Police also made several stretches Vehicle Free Zone from 10 pm on December 31 to 2 am on January 1 in the interest of safety and security of the general public as well as peaceful celebration of New Year-2020.
These roads are Inner Market roads of Sector 7, Sector 8, Sector 9, Sector 10, Sector 11, Sector 17, Inner Mkt road of Sector 22, Road in front of Leisure Valley, Sector 10, from Aroma Light Point to Small Chowk near Dispensary and around Elante Mall, Industrial Area Phase 1.
The Police requested general public is requested to make own parking arrangements for their vehicles in the vicinity of these road stretches. Residents whose houses are accessed using the above said road stretches, have been asked to carry a valid identity card and residence proof in order for their facilitation.
