Ch’garh on verge of bankruptcy: Raman

Sunday, 31 March 2019 | Staff Reporter | RAIPUR

Former chief minister Raman Singh on Saturday raised concern over the state of economy in Chhattisgarh under the Congress rule, claiming the state was moving towards bankruptcy.

Singh, who also held finance portfolio in the BJP government he led in the state, said soon the state government would be unable to pay salaries to its employees without taking loans.

The BJP had been critical of the state government’s decision to take loans to fund a slew of welfare schemes, like farm loan wavers, it implemented soon after coming to power.

Addressing media at BJP divisional headquarters, Singh said the state’s economy was in mess and if the present situation prevailed, soon the lending agencies would deny loans to the state.

He also raised the issue of non-payment of government bills apparently due to some problems in servers.

“In this age of information technology, it is not possible for server to remain down for 20 days. Due to this, bills worth around Rs 2000 crore are pending,” Singh said.

“The Congress government lacks basic vision. It is just the beginning. Soon they will have to give bonus to farmers’ for two years. What will happen to teachers and contract employees, after LS polls? The situations are going to worsen further,” the former CM said.

On the allegation of misappropriation of funds of government-run DKS hospital against his son-in- law Dr Punit Gupta, Singh said it was a political conspiracy to malign him.

He further stated that the “conspiracy” would soon be “unraveled.”

On setting up of special investigation teams to probe corruptions allegations against his government, Singh said, “Formation of SIT itself is a form of corruption. Based on the complaint of an accused the SIT has been constituted, which was even questioned by the court. If the matter goes to court, everything will become   crystal clear.”
