R P Mandal, chief secretary government of Chhattisgarh in a letter to his Telangana counterpart has sought assistance for holding a survey of the tribal who have migrated to the southern state.
The letter is part of a rehabilitation and resettlement of internally displaced people (IDP) of Chhattisgarh in Telangana using section 3(1) (m) of Forest Rights Act, 2006.
The letter cites that National Commission of Scheduled Tribe (NCST) taking cognizance of the application filed by one social worker had organised a meeting inviting representatives of Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra and Odisha on July 2, 2019. State government of Chhattisgarh was directed to conduct social and economic survey of tribal population migrated to the neighbouring states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra and Odisha with the help of local revenue and tribal welfare department of Chhattisgarh.
Letter further states the NCST has directed to make inquiry of the present status of those people at the migrated place and to know whether they want to return. To receive the forest rights claims of such families and issue titles as per their eligibility.
The commission has also directed district collectors of adjoining districts of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra and Odisha for helping in the survey to be carried out by Government of Chhattisgarh. Keeping this in view, the chief secretary has sought assistance from Telangana government.
