Even though the Commissionerate police have been successful in putting a curb on organised crimes, street crimes like loots and snatchings continue unabated in the State capital.
In a glaring example, a businessman was robbed of Rs 3 lakh by unidentified miscreants at the bustling Rajmahal Square under the Capital police station in broad daylight on Thursday.
The victim Damodar Mohapatra, a native of Muniguda in Rayagada district, had come to the city along with his two associates to buy a car. Two of them were sitting inside a four-wheeler as the other one went inside a car showroom. Meanwhile, the miscreants approached the duo sitting in the car and foxed them by saying to check oil leakage from their vehicle.
After the duo alighted from the vehicle, the miscreants snatched the cash bag kept in the vehicle and fled from the spot in a flash.
