Department of Women and Child Development (DWCD) along with the Education Department conducted a one-day seminar in Dehradun on Wednesday. During the programme, some girls who have achieved a name in various fields have been felicitated. Officers from the department stressed on empowering the women and the girls while pushing them even further.
Director DECD Jharna Kamthan sounded happy over a large number of women participating in the event. He also provided information about various government programmes being executed for women empowerment.
In all, 20 girls who had scored the highest marks in the class 10thand 12th examinations have been given prizes on the occasion. Besides, trophies have been bagged by the girls who had won prizes while representing the country in various fields of sports. This aside,10 women have been given ‘Vaishnavi Kit’ on the occasion.
Inaugurating the event, the mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ said, “Girls are now achieving every height with their intelligence and hard work. There is nothing they are unable to do in this present world.”
Addressing the students of class 10th and 12th, the career counsellor, Saurabh Badoni said, “It has always been a theory that women are more visible in the government sector and not in the private sector. However, things have changed now. The women are now holding very important positions in big multinational companies and in the private sector companies. The girls who are about to pass out from their schools need not just to think of getting government jobs when the private jobs are also a very good option.”
Addressing the seminar, the district programme officer Chaya Bahuguna said, “Our initiative of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao has been successfully running in all the 13 districts of the state. Our aim is to improve it even further and connect more and more girls with education and development programmes.”
