The Anti-caste Marriage and One-child Family of Organisation of India (AMOFOI) on Thursday here observed the 186th birth anniversary of freethinker Charles Bradlaugh.
Humanist Rationalist Organisation, Odisha, president Prof Dhaneswar Sahoo graced the occasion as chief guest and president of Odisha Dalit Adhikar Manch (ODAM) Manas Jena joined as the chief speaker . FPI president Dr Bijayananda Kar presided.
AMOFOI founder-secretary B Ramchandra CST Voltaire presented a detailed picture of Bradlaugh’s “greatness” in refusing to take oath as a Member of the British Parliament in the name of God.
Prof Dhaneswar Sahoo, while speaking at length on Bradlaugh’s personality, observed that he was very truly a freethinker.
Chief speaker Jena opined that unless quality English medium education and priest-less love marriage are given exclusive State support, the caste system in India would never be annihilated.
Others, who spoke, included Mahamad Sukur, Harish Chandra Kar, Madhusudan Yadav and Tusharkanta Satpathy.
