Samajwadi Party president and former UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav met the kin of Unnao rape victim at the KGMU Trauma Centre in Lucknow on Tuesday and later demanded a probe into the mishap by an SIT led by a high court judge.
Speaking to mediapersons, Akhilesh said: “I have spoken to doctors and they assured me the best possible treatment to the girl. We demand a probe into this matter by an SIT, headed by a sitting HC judge. The state government is not helping the victim in the way it should, as the incident took place due to laxity by police. The state government stands directly responsible for the incident.”
The SP chief pointed towards a ‘nexus’ between the state government and police. “The victim is not getting justice despite the fact that our President, Prime Minister and Defence Minister have been elected from Uttar Pradesh. The police are acting at the behest of the government,” he alleged.
Akhilesh announced that his party would provide Rs 10 lakh to the victim’s family as compensation. He demanded that the victim’s family be allowed to meet newly-appointed Governor Anandiben Patel in order to bring out the facts.
Meanwhile, a team of National Commission for Women (NCW), led by Deputy Secretary Jyoti Singhal, met the family members of the rape victim at the KGMU Trauma Centre and enquired about the accident.
Earlier on Monday, Chief of Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) Swati Maliwal also met the family members.
“The condition of the victim is critical and the government should issue a health bulletin every hour. The victim needs better treatment at some speciality hospital in Delhi. The DCW is ready to bear the cost of her treatment,” Maliwal said.
