Lecturers in Government colleges in the State have been instructed to be physically available in their campuses for at least seven hours a day, including five hours for teaching and two hours for administrative works. A notification to this effect will be issued by the Higher Education Department soon.
A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting between Government college Principals and department officials chaired by Higher Education Minister Arun Sahoo here on Saturday.
It was decided that the teachers have to finish their work break within 30 minutes.
“We are taking views from Principals of all government colleges and other stakeholders regarding how to strengthen the higher education system,” Sahoo told reporters after the meeting.
The department also decided to set up biometric attendance in all Government colleges within two to three months. Presently, 16 out of 52 colleges have such attendance system.
Besides, the Government would initiate a process to appoint permanent Principals in all its colleges, which now have in-charge Principals.
