40-45% illegal colonies won’t be regularised: Cong

Saturday, 30 November 2019 | Staff Reporter | NEW DELHI

Accusing the Centre for ‘misleading’ people of unauthorised colonies, Delhi Congress on Friday alleged that nearly 40-45 per cent unauthorised colonies in the national Capital will not be ‘regularised’ due to a notification issued by the BJP-ruled Centre.

Delhi Congress president Subhash Chopra accused the Modi Government at the Centre and the Delhi Government of conspiring to remove over half of the unauthorised colonies in Delhi, and drive 40 lakh people living in these colonies to despair. He said that ‘Para 7A of section 7’ in the ‘gazette notification’ issued on 29 November, this year was a clear move against those living in unauthorised colonies. He said that by cancelling the notification of the Congress party and come out with a new notification was a clear indication that the policies and intent of the BJP and the AAP Governments were contradictory and against those  living in unauthorised colonies.

Chopra said in the special session, the Delhi Assembly passed a resolution to regularise all the unauthorised colonies on the basis of the policies adopted by  Indira Gandhi in 1976-77, as the Congress Government made it clear that it will not accept any other model than the one adopted by Gandhi.

He further said that the BJP Government had instigated HD Shourie of the “Common Cause” to file a case against unauthorised colonies in the court and he was in fact rewarded by the BJP Government for going against unauthorised colonies in Delhi.

Former Delhi Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said that when Congress was in power, it had issued a notification for the regularisation of unauthorised colonies, but the BJP cancelled that notification. Lovely said that the notification for the regularisation of unauthorised colonies in Delhi was like the hurried Government formation by the BJP in Maharashtra, which was very short lived and a slap on the face of the BJP.

“The Congress did not only issue notification for the regularisation of unauthorised colonies, but also included it in the Master Plan. Both the BJP and AAP are cheating over 40 lakh people living in unauthorised colonies, Lovely added.
