4 arrested in attempted armed robbery of milk van driver

Thursday, 31 October 2019 | PNS | DEHRADUN

In the attempted armed robbery case in which a dairy van driver was targeted near the jungles of Dhulkot, police arrested all the four accused on Wednesday. In the investigation, it was found that the  crime was committed by the people involved with another businessman Devdatt. The accused revealed that they planned to rob a milk vehicle, which started from the main dairy and then sold milk at different shops and then came back after collecting large sum of money in cash. They thought that they will be able to bag more money as the people buy more milk during Diwali.

The accused have been identified as Manjit Goliya (29) Rohit Patel (20)—both natives of Haryana, Mohit Kumar (29), a resident of Premnagar and Devdatt from Vikasnagar.

During the initial interrogation, accused Manjit revealed, that he and Rohit had past criminal records. After he got out of jail, he and Rohit started residing at Vikasnagar. He then started a hotel near old post office at Premnagar, but later shut it down because of loss in business.

During the same time, he built a friendship with both Mohit and Devdutt and with them, he and Rohit made the plan to rob a milk businessman of the area. As most of the milk supply vans go from Sahaspur and Vikasnagar and they were already familiar with the terrain, they thought it will be easy to rob the van.

As per the plan, they decided to target the driver of Param Dairy, Ankit and started following him from Rajawala tri-junction. Devdutt had already provided them with an empty crate.

They, then, stopped him near Dhulkot jungle under the pretext that one of the crates from his van had fallen off and then at gunpoint, asked him to hand over all cash.

However, the driver denied having any cash. In a fit of anger, Manjit fired a shot injuring the driver.

Upon hearing the gunshot, people started gathering and they rode away from the crime scene through the jungles of Dhulkot to Suddhowala.
