Two people were murdered after a 35-year-old man, along with his three associates, allegedly opened fire in Delhi’s Jyoti Nagar area on Wednesday night.

Police said the accused had personal enmity with one of the victim Govinda — a fitness enthusiast, while the second victim Akash was passing by in the area when he was hit by a bullet in the shootout.

The deceased Govinda (28) and Akash (27) were residents of Jyoti Nagar. The main accused has been identified as Anil, who is also a resident of Jyoti Nagar and is absconding while the three associates identified as Aman (19) a resident of Delhi’s Saboli area, Ashu (19) a resident of Delhi’s Meet Nagar and Ankit (19) have been arrested by Delhi Police.

According to Atul Kumar Thakur, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), North East district, a police control room (PCR) call regarding the incident was received at around 10.45 pm on Wednesday following which a team rushed to the spot.

“The victims were rushed to the GTB Hospital where they were declared brought dead,” the DCP said.

“During initial investigation it was revealed that the accused fired upon Govinda when he was returning from the gym. During the shootout, some bullets hit a passerby who was later identified as Akash,” said the DCP.

“Investigation also revealed that Govinda and Anil had filled cross First Information Reports (FIRs) against each other after they had a quarrel in 2016,” said the DCP.

“Police have handed over the bodies of the deceased to their family members after the post-mortem. Police have registered a case under relevant sections and manhunt has been initiated to nab the accused,” said the DCP.

Govinda used to assist his father in property dealing business while Akash used to work in a footwear shop at Seelampur area.
