2.5 months on, flood-hit Tarbha yet to get succour

Thursday, 31 October 2019 | PNS | SONEPUR

The Government has not provided any special package for the flood-hit in Tarbha yet although it incurred huge losses.

Sadly, no leaders of Subarnapur district have demanded a package for the flood-hit, although two Ministers, including Finance Minister Niranjan Pujari and Transport Minister Padmanabha Behera, are from the district. BJD district president Saroj Kampa also belongs to the Tarbha block.

While the district received nearly 139.9 mm rainfall, all the NAC wards were under water of 7 feet. People living on the banks of Nibrutijore and residents of Chamarpada, Kumbharapada, Malipada and Pournamasipada had to be evacuated to safer places.

Faulty drainage system and encroachment of water bodies made the flood situation worse. More than 7 feet of water was flowing on the roads of Tarbha town. Many houses in the localities got washed away. Tulunda Gram Panchayat was the worst affected in the flood.

During the flood time, no members of Biju Yuva Bahini, who always boast of social works, were active and involved in rescue operation.

Satish Kumar Sahu, a denizen of Tarbha, said that the Government has given just a paltry assistance of Rs 60 per day per a person for fooding during flood. Tarbha needs a special package, he demanded.
