Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday said that the number of MBBS seats in medical colleges of the State has increased from 700 in the year 2014 to 1,450 in 2019 and a target has been set to increase it to minimum 2000 seats in the near future.
Addressing the people at the launching of Ayush Health and Wellness Centres in Haryana, at Panchkula, Khattar said that though the State has adequate health infrastructure but more doctors are needed to meet the demand.
He said at present 13,000 doctors are available in the State as against the requirement of 27,000 doctors. With a view to meet the demand of doctors, the state government has a plan to open one medical college in each district of the State. At present, three Government and 19 private medical colleges are functional in the State, he added.
